Das Tonmineral Montmorillonit ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil in Gartenteichen, besonders für Koi’s und manchmal auch in Grossaquarien. Das Mineral wird in Form von speziell getrocknetem und gemahlenem Lehmpulver in den Teich gestreut. Während das verteilte Lehmpulver im Teich zu Boden sinkt, nimmt es Schwermetalle, Giftstoffe und sonstige Schwebstoffe auf und bindet diese. Der Lehmschlamm kann von Zeit zu Zeit abgesaugt werden.
